Anita\’s life in Folorida

Anita Roddick was the owner of Body Shop. She got an idea of business from her traveling in developing country and from her monther. She startied her business to support her family. Anita Roddick had sense of social responsibility, so her businesses have the power to do good for supporting social and environmental causes. Her personality was very warm, witty and clever. She had a great passion for life, business and people. Roddick died on Sep. 10,2007  because of she contracted hepatitis C.

The obstacles to the developing countries there are following problems:

1. Under developed/ heavily controlled financial market.

2. Large government ownership/control of productive assets.

3. Persistant budget dificits financed by printing money.

4. Over-valued exchange rates.

5. Policies that encourage import-substitutioning industrializations(ISI).  

What does ISI stand for? ISI is a trade and economic policy based on the hypothesis that a developing country should try to substitute the import products,mostly finished goods with locally produced substitutes. It is similar to that of mercantilism in that it promotes high exports and minimal imports to increase national wealth. It practiced in many developing countries and effect the developing countries improve their economy.(http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Import+Sustitution+Industrialisation)For example, South Korean used the strategy of ISI to boost its competitiveness in the 1970s.Investments were made into heavy and chemical industries, such as shipbuilding, steel and petrochemicals. Recently, South Korean has become a leading producer of automobiles, according to South Korean’s experience, a country can change a war-damaged economy to a well-developed, it’s a successful sample. However, Srilanka didn’t bring the strategy of ISI into their economical framework and now they are still in developing country. Therefore, we can understand the govement’s policy is very important for the developing country developed their economy.

Mohammund Yunus said “poverty is not cause by the poor people, poverty is cause by the system we created.” I totally agree with him and appreciate his opinion. We know many natural resources may effect the country to be rich or poor, but we have no choose about it. In the other words, we can’t choose our native country and our family. Everyone wants to be a reach people in native, but it’s unfair to the pool people who were boon in the poverty area, because it’s not their volition. I also agree with Yunus’ mentioned, society is the base, if we have good base then we can get good result. Yunus also gave us a good example about the “Bonsai Tree”, he said the poor people are like the bonsai tree, if we pick the seed from the taller trees then the seed will grow very well, but if we pick the seed from the shorter trees then it may not get result. We did many things wrong and now the poverty is here; therefore we have to do something right for the pool people. We need to change the bad base and provide a good environment, they need good space for growing up.  

    In the world there are many kinds of food very famous and delicious. Most people used to eat the food and depending on their own cultural food, but more and more people like to test different food from other countries to experience different cultures.  For example, there are many popular restaurants in my country, and most of them are foreign, mostly are American and Japaness food, and some are Italien and Thai food. Following we are going compare the cultural practices of food consumption in the U.S. and in my home country Taiwan.

     Eating is an important thing in my country especially for the meals. In Taiwan, people used to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily and believe that they should get full in breakfast and lunch because it will bring more energy in one day.  However, American used to eat simple breakfast and lunch, or some people just have soup and salad for the lunch; they are  care more about the dinner and it’s very important in U.S. They usually set up the important date or appointment in the dinner.

     Besides the difference between U.S. and Taiwan in meals, we have some similar culturral of food between U.S. and Taiwan. For instance, now we have many fast food restaurants in Taiwan; we are used to drink milk in the breakfast; we usually bring the leftover home; we drink beer during the party; we use the garlic in cooking very often and so on.

     There are many difference and similar cultural practices of food in the U.S and Taiwan. For this reason, we should open our mind and attempt to experience different food in different cultures, then we can learn many cultures from the food.  

    Metaphor is an idea that people use to stand for another set of ideas. It’s a phrase which describes one thing by standing another thing with which it can be compared without using the words “as” or “like”. For example, the people usually have the stereotyped thinking, that Dutchman must be an economist more than the other people. Therefore, the people using the words “ Go Dutch” in the situation of people whom want to separate the check in the restaurant. It’s a common used  metaphorical especially in Europe.
